The sea was calm. No one was at the shore yet it never complained. In a fully furnished apartment next to her, a man, in despair, was sitting on a sofa trying to knot a coir. It seemed a difficult task for him, though an easy knot. His hands trembled and missed every chances for a perfect knot. He was well dressed and his shoes clean to mirror, a black one, indeed!
The next morning was very important for him. He slept well. The morning was not shining for him, as the task he himself assigned was heavy for him. He drove his car and the perfectly knotted coir accompanied him. The rattling of the garbage bag disturbed him, which was lying behind, but he gave no attention. He looked at it with contempt and drove his car.
He reached where it was destined to be the ultimate farewell and looked around. The sea was still calm and expecting nothing. He wanted a rock – a rigid and heavy one. He snooped around like a child trying to find a toy. When he got one, he tried his weight on it. It was perfect and accurate. He grabbed it and kept inside the trunk. The pram took all of the boot space but he managed to place it secure, giving no harm to pram. He caressed the pram as if he apologized to it.
Lighting a cigarette, he enjoyed the serenity of the sea and then took a deep dip, all at once. Bubbles formed, and the ripples were dancing all around them. He could not hold his breath. He jerked off, deep from the water, sobbing and weeping like a baby. He covered his face with grief and imagined how could have his wife suffered while drowning to death. His beard dripping the salted water all over his suited dress.
He walked all the way to the car, drenched. He took the garbage bag and the stone he had chosen for the day. He tied the knot to the garbage bag and other end to the stone. He hugged them and lifted them and it felt heavy for him. Walking toward the deep waters of the sea that nearly killed him, he was no afraid.
His tears dripped yet made no difference to enormity of the sea. He dipped the garbage bag and by the weight of the stone it toppled but revealed his daughters beautiful hands – so precious – and charming. His daughter, she now returned to where she belonged to – her mother.
